Trendy Fashion Report - The Royal Wedding

Kate Middleton finally married her Prince in style! The new Duchess of Cambdrige looked perfectly stunning and effortlessly elegant in her bridal confection by Alexander McQueen protege, British born  Sarah Burton. The Royal bride was every inch the modern day Princess with her "something borrowed" halo tiara that the Queen loaned her for the special day. She opted to wear her hair down in romantic cascading waves, and the V-neck with lace overlay detail was a nice way to show some skin without being inappropriate. Many of us could hardly wait for the big reveal and she didn't disappoint. She obviously knows she has a fantastic figure and she opted for gowns that helped highlight her best assets in a classic and traditional way. The dress she wore to the reception also by Sarah Burton was equally breathtaking and featured an eye-popping beaded waistband that showed off her enviable shape while adding a spark of glamour. It's clear she wanted to maintain the romantic tone of the day with another gown that had the full flowing skirt and sweetheart neckline. The mohair cardigan was definitely a gorgeous accessory that helped complete the ensemble. Her younger sister and maid-of-honor, Pippa was also a stunner and many revellers believe she might have upstaged her sister. But its hard to steal the spotlight from a young woman who has won the heart of the future King of England. The Duchess has proven that she is more than capable to assume  the new role she has acquired. Can't wait to see more from this new member of the Royal household!

Trendy Events Report - The 2010 CFDA Awards

The annual CFDA Fashion Awards were held earlier this week and it did not disappoint in the stylin' department. Most of the ladies were tastefully glammed up. Gwyneth Paltrow wowed in her shimmery black Michael Kors number. Iman chose a black sexy strapless ensemble by Giambattista Valli. The feathered skirt detail never gets old! Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker who paid tribute to the late Alexander McQueen was stunning in her silky colorful confection by Galle. And actress Rachel Weisz was elegantly sexy in a floral print dress by Jason Wu. Among the big winners of the night were Christopher Bailey for Burberry who won the International Award, Iman got the Fashion Icon Award, and Michael Kors received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.

Designer Alexander McQueen Dies

The fashion world is in shock and despair over the unexpected passing of one of the world’s most formidable and innovative designers. Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London home on Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed but reports are circulating that it was from an apparent suicide. London’s Metropolitan Police would only say that a 40 year old man was found unresponsive at an address in Green Street, central London. No further details were released surrounding the tragic situation. In a statement issued by his company, it is clear McQueen’s family members are reeling from the designer’s death and would prefer privacy at this time.

Alexander McQueen whose given name was Lee McQueen was a renegade designer of sorts. He has a reputation of being the rebel of the runway which earned him the title “the hooligan of English fashion”. Ironically enough his death coincides with the start of London Fashion Week which debuts next week. The London Fashion Week’s website paid homage to the late designer, stating “We are deeply shocked and saddened at the news of Alexander McQueen’s untimely death. He was a unique talent and one of the world’s greatest designers. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time”. Eerily enough, on February 3rd 2010, the designer announced the death of his mother on his Twitter page. Four days later he noted he had ‘an awful week” adding “now I have to pull myself together”.

British designer Vivienne Westwood also commented on the loss of McQueen through Britain’s Press Association stating how “incredibly sorry” she was to hear the news.

McQueen was a favorite among celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sandra Bullock to name a few. The It Girl of the moment Lady Gaga a self-proclaimed fan of McQueen’s avant-garde designs gushed about the designer on in a recent interview CNN’s “American Morning”, “He is so pure and from within and I, he just generally inspires me…and I love when I can wear his clothes and sort of synthesize for my fans what it means to me, because I want then to escape through his clothes the way I do”.

The designer began his career by in London’s famed Savile Row and where he began making suits for Prince Charles. In 1991, stylist Isabella Blow bought his clothing line which was eventually became part of the Gucci Group based in Paris.

He received many accolades and awards from the fashion community. throughout his career including being honored as a commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003. His spring/summer 2010 collection was hailed by Vogue as his best so far.

His death is a major loss to the fashion world. His designs were fantastical and imaginative. He is undeniably irreplaceable.

Trendy Fashion Report - The Golden Globes

So, the best part of this award season is the FASHION. There were plenty of gorgeous looks on the red carpet despite the unrelenting rain. There were also a few disappointments but thats what adds to the fun! For the most part the theme of the night seemed to echo the The People's Choice Awards by once again drawing attention to the beauty of the female form. A lot of soft palette body hugging gowns were showcased actresses like Drew Barrymore in a nude embellished gown by Atelier Versace, Marion Cotillard in an amazing teal Christian Dior gown and Jennifer Garner looking stunning in her shimmery Versace dress. Maggie Gylenhaal finally stepped up to the plate and showed what she is made of by donning a one of a kind number by RM by Roland Mouret. Other standouts included the Queen of the Night, Sandra Bullock in an airy purple almost "plastic - looking" dress that despite the description seemed appropriate for the rainy night. Avatar's Zoe Saldana went the romantic route in her burgundy ruffled confection by Louis Vuitton and Cameron Diaz knows how to do her body some good with her bright red lips highlighting her hot red number by Alexander McGueen. Unfortunately Julia Roberts did not quite measure up in the glam department in her ill-fitting black vintage Yves Saint Laurent. Chloe Sevigny is normally the one risk taker who gets it right but she failed in this overwhelmingly ruffled Valentino gown. Fashion 101 - You should Always Wear The Dress and never vice versa. And finally Tina Fey who normally plays it safe did a lot of damage on the red carpet in this weirdly shaped gown. Sorry gals! Better luck next time!
