C'mon Get Pretty!

What an absolute stunner!! This was one of the dresses that graced the runways for the Spring '09 shows. Its a Marc Jacobs creation and the colors are what do it for me. And of course the black wrap belt. And how about that snazzy hat! With Spring in the air its refreshing to finally start buying dresses to wear as opposed to imagining how fab it would be to actually wear one. And this yellow/blue bubble confection is just the remedy to get us out of the winter funk! Imagine rocking this on the South Beach strip with your favorite Gucci eyewear after a lazy afternoon on the beach. Fabulosity!!

Something old, Something new

Everything old is new again. And thank God because the way things are going recycling and re-working pieces is going to be the answer to a lot of styling woes. But in the meantime we can enjoy the stylish distressed and worn in jeans line launched by Les Halles.  This new clothing label is dedicated to producing the much beloved "faded" look in their skinny and boy cut jeans. And compared to their other competitors, the price range is pretty reasonable. The pair of skinny jeans on the left retail at $120. Not a bad price to pay for showing off those long endless legs paired up with your favorite neon colored pumps!

Bagging it in Style

Thanks to Chanel's innovative idea featuring reversible nylon and lambskin bags that literally weigh nothing, we can console ourselves after seeing the price tag that we are getting two bags for the price of one. And that is an absolute fact, considering that the color schemes are black, navy, ecru and beige. You are guaranteed the delight of being able to interchange the look to coordinate with your outfit at any given day. This is most welcomed now with the buyers being extra cautious given the economic climate. This could just be the start of a new trend.

Trendy Designer Spotlight -Viktor & Rolf

The Dutchmen have spoken! And there is no denying the intense collaboration between the fashion industry's most creative and inventive duo; Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren  produces the most awe-inspiring results. Their collection at the fall '09 show in Paris stayed true to their off-beat and avant-guarde attributes. To heighten the dramatics, the models were whitewashed and made to look intensely pale from top to bottom with their makeup acting as a stark contrast. Shades of off-white, gray, black and stone were the colors of choice but the results were anything but dull. There were highly imaginative creations using the most daring fabrics; woolens, liquid jerseys and material that seemed to strangely resembled something akin to concrete. There was also a lot of play with ruffles and chiffon. As typical with Viktor and Rolf shows a lot of the pieces seem to breath more life on the runway than in real life. The designers have always seemed more interested in production and show value than practicality. But their elegant display of silk chiffon shirtdresses  definitely has the potential to be a staple for hungry fashionistas.

Trendy Designer Spotlight -Yves Saint Laurent

Ultra chic. Ultra glam. Stefano Pilati's fall '09 collection for Yves Saint Laurent was a strong reassurance that women have the ability to be major players, stay on top of their game and look absolutely fab at the same time. His pieces were functional and understated while still bringing the glamour and sleek elegance this house has always been known for. There was a playful and edgy twist to the most simple elements like the sharp white stripes against a gray background paired with a architecturally crisp blouse. The tone of the show hindered on the use of brilliantly constructed pieces used in a way to ooze and promote sensuality and confidence. "Ooh la la!"

Trendy Fashion Highlight Report - Milan

Word on the street is that full on glam is the official language in Milan. Judging by the accessories on display, the recession is not in any way dictating the tone at the Milan Fashion Week event. Richer fibres, textures and strong colors were the theme. Luxury was in full swing and nothing was held back. Very refreshing! Bring it on!

Trendy Designer Spotlight -Emporio Armani

Armani had an awesome showing at the Milan Fashion Week event. Of course I'm sure it was a big boost displaying his collection in familiar territory. Nevertheless, there was a whimsical, light and airy feel to his designs. Armani is known for his ultra-feminine touch and he definitely didn't disappoint. But there were also very strong and bold undertones with a hint of sportiness that gave his collection that extra kick proving once again that the Armani woman can be chic and sexy while staying on top of her game.

Trendy Milan Fashion Week Report

Country chic meets city glam in Miuccia Prada's Sunday night viewing of her fall '09 runway show in Milan. It was a collection that explained the beauty and origin of intertwining the simple basics with rougher more complex fabrics. Prada is known for her immaculate tailoring but she still made room for certain "imperfections" like split-open seams that show a surprising hint of bright red against the olive or brown background. There was also a lot of attention paid to the waist with her great use of belts of all textures and sizes. The hip-high boots were also a much beloved accessory that has been slowly but surely making its mark this season so by fall '09 it should become a staple. So the first theme of the Milan runway hinges on the bold and daring and the merging of different walks of life to create that striking , romantic and rugged look. Now thats a challenge any fashionista will gladly take on.
