Trendy Food Report - Bacon Sundae!

There is nothing fashionably fit about this new concoction from Denny's. The Maple Bacon Sundae will do major damage to your insides not to mention your physique. With summer fast approaching, any dish that features vanilla ice cream topped with maple syrup and a healthy helping of hickory-smoked bacon, will have you spending hours at the gym as a payback for being greedy. But if you think you are brave and fit enough to bounce back go for it! You certainly wont be breaking any laws.

Trendy Spotlight - Jade Goody

This is the two-year anniversary of Jade Goody's untimely death from cervical cancer. The mother of two adorable boys ironically died on Mother's Day of 2009. She was the ultimate Reality TVstar whose childhood in the slums of London was far from ideal. But she rose above the ashes and became one of the most sought after celebrities and a certified brand. Fame, fortune, and male admirers were now the norm for the "Girl from Bermonsdey". But all that was swiftly taken away after her shocking diagnosis in the summer of 2008. After years of fainting spells and being in and out of the hospital, the inevitable finally ocurred and in the spring of the following year the final blow was delivered. She was told she had mere weeks to live. She decided to marry her true love Jack Tweed, and allowed the cameras to film the happiest and saddest day of her life. Soon after the wedding it was clear that Jade's days were numbered and she then decided to arrange a baptism for her and her beloved boys. So they would be re-assured that despite her physical absence, she was always going to be there for them in spirit. And then she was gone. A bright light abruptly turned off leaving us to wonder why bad things happen to good people. Jade made her 27 years on earth count for something. Hopefully those of us left behind will try to do the same. Rest easy Jade!

Trendy Spotlight Movie - "Desert Flower"

Ethiopian model turned actress Liya Kebede has joined the roster of Runway beauties that feel the need to also command the attention of the big screen. She has managed to achieve this with much success. The 33-year-old beauty who already has a very impressive resume including being the first black model to sign a contract with a major international cosmetics company (Estee Lauder), is the star of “Desert Flower”, a film directed by Sherry Horman.
Kebede portrays real life Somalian model Waris Dirie, who became a top model in the late eighties after landing the cover of Pirelli Calendar in 1987, thanks to photographer Terence Donovan. Despite all the fame and glamour, Dirie’s difficult past always haunted her. The film gives us a true picture of the horrors of female circumcision and forced early marriage. Dirie endured both events, at an astonishingly early age. Circumcised at 3 and sold into marriage at 13. This is the story of determination and triumph and being able to overcome extraordinary circumstances by coming out on top.
The theme of the film may be heavy but Kebede insists that the story is quite inspiring and will leave you with need to examine your life and confront those issues that have always held you back.
“Desert Flower” premiered last Friday at the Angelika Film Center in New York and in LA. It’s definitely worth the ticket!
