Nigerian Artist On The Rise - Emenike Ogwo

Happy Girl (Oil on Paper)

Emenike Ogwo is a Nigerian-born artist whose penchant for strong vivid images splashed in an array of colors, has made him a household name in his nativeland and abroad. His first solo show "Cultures in Colours", held at the prestigious National Museum in Lagos, Nigeria, two years ago, was a resounding success and proved his worth as an overnight talent. He prefers to use his art as a way to express his cultural pride and his belief in freedom of speech and positive living. He decribes himself as "an instictive painter and a freeman". He sees art as the key to universal alliance. He also prefers not be regarded as an abstract painter, pointing out his need to be apppreciated for his simplicity and unique approach to self-expression. To achieve the best effect, he works mostly with oil on canvas and prefers textured surfaces. He is definitely an artist to be reckoned with!
