Famed British Photographer Corinne Day Passes Away

Corinne Day, the renowned English photographer that helped propel Kate Moss to Supermodel status ( she shot Moss' first Vogue cover in 1993) died this past weekend from brain cancer. She was 45 years old. She made a name for herself in the nineties by rejecting the glossy style of the eighties and embracing a cleaner more stylized editorial look.  An example of that can be seen in the British mag The Face, where a smiling 16-year old Kate Moss (who was also be a good friend of Day's) graces the cover. Her ability to flawlessly blend art and photography will be her lasting legacy.

Emmy 2010 Fashion Galore

So Awards Season is back! Sort of. The Emmy awards last night featured the stars of television in their Sunday best. And for the most part it was pretty non-dramatic. The colors of the night echoed various shades of navy, blue and purple. Black proved to be a popular choice which was a stark contrast to the bright sunny LA weather. There were some winners and losers of course. Both Parenthood actress Lauren Graham in Yigal Azrouel and Office star Mindy Kaling in (God knows what!) completely missed the mark this time around. Lauren Graham who normally plays it safe decided to take a risk and it cost her big time! And Kaling has always unsuccessfully pushed the envelope, maybe its time she played it safe! Anna Paquin was ready to conquer the red carpet in her Alexander McQueen ensemble. She gets points for effort but the gown over-powered the True Blood star's tiny frame. But her hair and makeup were flawless. Eva Longoria Parker was stunning in her Robert Rodriguez gown. Her dangling earrings added the right amoung of bling. The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick went for a bold burgundy Monique Lhuilller gown that accentuated her complexion and her flowy locks only added to her feminine appeal. Claire Danes in her Armani Prive gown definitely owned the night. She looked like a Greek goddess from head to toe. Close to perfection in my book. For more on the Emmy Fashion highlights visit zimbio.com.

Dawn Okoro - Artist Extraordinaire

Check out these striking images from up and coming artist, Dawn Okoro. She hails from Houston, Texas born, to an African-American mother and Nigerian father. Her background may have inspired her eclectic designs but whatever the case Okoro possesses a talent that is uniquely expressive. She's also quite ambitious, having received both a BA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a law degree from Texas Southern University. She has an affinity for producing figurative art, and the ones that grab my attention depict women in various and sometimes provocative poses. Her edgy pieces are showcased throughout the U.S. and also internationally. She is also gaining a huge celebrity following. She is currently based in New York. To learn more visit dawnokoro.com.

Trendy Look of The week - Alan Cumming

Why do I dig this outfit? It looks freakishly outlandish with a tendency to make an onlooker become dizzy. But the colors and vibrancy of this ensemble not to mention the immaculate tailoring makes it easy to root for actor Alan Cumming and support his decision to bravely don this three-piece suit from Moods of Norway. There is also a very good reason for this oddball choice and that has something to do with the fact that he is trying to plug the new Smurfs movie. He voices Gutsy Smurf. Not a bad way to publicize a film. Looking Chic, Cool and Collected!

Trendy Model of The Moment - Herieth Paul

Tanzanian born Herieth Paul, 16, is already making waves in the fashion world, and she hopes to to achieve Supermodel status by the time she hits 18. "My goal for modeling is that by 18, I'm going to be on every magazine. And model for everyone: Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Gucci, Prada. You name it, I'll do it!" This was her mission statement to WWD.com. She is definitely on her way to achieving her goal as she gets ready for her first catwalk appearance for New York fashion week. Her chameleon-like features matched with her flawlessly lithe build should serve her well.

Lauryn Hill Hits Us With "Repercussions"

The woman who defined the essence of music for me 10 years ago is back! Well, sorta. Her track titled Repercussions, is all over the web and it sounds like the Queen of Hip Hop is still in rare form! It is only a demo and most likely wont evolve into a chart topping hit. But if this is a preview of things to come, it's definitely been worth the wait!

Back To School And Looking So Good!

Going back to school is never something to look forward to, but the new sac a dos bosphore backpack from Louis Vuitton ($1410) will certainly make it a less painful experience. There is no better way to make new friends or become the teacher's pet!

Groove To This!

This would make an awesome backdrop sound for your end of summer soiree! If you are a fan of Bjork, then this re-mix will be a heavenly experience. Enjoy!

Rihanna Dazzles At Madison Square Garden

Rihanna took her look to another level Thursday night when she donned a black gown with red lights streaming out of it while performing at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Considering her fiery red hairdo its safe to say she is definitely on fire these days!

Bat Those Lashes!

Fuller, longer and colorful are the lashes of the moment. Its time to get dramatic and playful when dolling up for a night out or a night in (depending on your preference). Say goodbye to the generic black or brown shades and make way for the theatrics. A lot of brands are joining in on the fun supplying false eyelashes in an array of colors and styles. ILLAMASQUA, sells a set of them for $16 and the looks range from subtle to daring. Sephora also has a case of Glitter Lashes ($8) that are easy to apply and wont weigh your eyelids down. Being a girl is so much fun!

"Clog" Your Way To The Perfect Strut

Falken from Sam Edelman ($200.95) at Zappos
Studclog from Stuart Weitzman ($196.65) at Zappos
Deal from Franco Sarto ($119.00) at Zappos
Allston from Via Spiga ($185.00) at Zappos
Swiss from daniblack ($154.00) at Zappos

Clogs are now becoming a fashion mainstay, thanks to all the cool variations in texture and style. From the animal print to the peep-toe detail, clogs are anything but the boring footwear that we used to wear to make grocey store runs or tend the garden. They should definitely become every fashionistas best friend this fall.

Feline Power

Leopard Print Scarf ($32) Topshop
Belted Leopard Tunic Tube ($49) Arden B
Dierdre ($130) Nine West
Leopard Intarsia Beanie ($275) Stella McCartney

Now that we are half way into summer, it's time to start stocking your wardrobe with pieces that you can't live without especially with the colder months fast approaching. Items displaying anything resembling leopard print seem to be in demand. Since making a splash this spring, it looks like this theme is here to stay. Thanks to the still balmy evenings, you can still get your kicks from the leopard inspired caged sandal from Nine West's Boutique 9 collection. Pair it up with your favorite all black ensemble. The belted leopard tunic with the very feminine sweetheart neckline is equipped to accommodate your bustline issues (it has a lighlty padded bra cup). The colors and polyester blend make it the perfect transitional piece. We can always use an edgy accessory like the leopard print scarf to spice up any outfit. And the leopard print oversized beanie should be your must have item for winter.

New Fashion Director At ESSENCE Making Waves

Essence Magazine is taking a lot of heat after it was discovered that their new Fashion Director Ellianna Placas is not African-American, but rather Caucasian. Placas, who previously worked at US Weekly and O, The Oprah Magazine is set to start her new gig in September but a lot of people are up in arms over the decision to hire someone who although being qualified is not African-American. Even former Honey Magazine editor Michaela Angela Davis tweeted her disapproval stating, "Its with a heavy heavy heart I have learned that Essence magazine has engaged a white fashion director, this hurts, literally, spiritually." She then went on to elaborate further on facebook, "If there were balance in the industry; if we didn't have a history of being ignored and disrespected; if more mainstream fashion media included people of color before the ONE magazine dedicated to black women "diversified", it would feel different". Davis definitely has a point about mainstream fashion outlests not being satisfactorily diversified, but that shouldn't be the reason why a publication geared towards African-American women can't hire a white woman to be its Fashion Director. Fashion is a global indulgence and for the most part is virtually color blind. Having a classic sense of style or an addiction to designer labels is not limited to women of a certain race or creed. Besides, Essence is in dire need of a change. And if Ellianna Placas is the right woman for the job, then I say Kudos to her! and Kudos to Essence! for making a sensible decision rather than a racial one.

Trendy Fashion News Report - Bloomingdale's Hits The Beach

Bloomingdale's is taking up permanent residency on the beaches of Santa Monica, California. The new store will provide the usual upscale goodies dedicated customers have come to expect. There are high hopes that this branch will continue the consistent success of its predecessors. To help guarantee that, the new space will be missing some staple departments. Home, plus size garments, and kids will not be featured. This is supposed to help direct the focus to the categories that typical generate the highest revenue. Life is always a beach in Santa Monica. But with the arrival of Bloomingdale's that might change.

Trendy Events Report - The 64th Annual Tony Awards

The 64th Annual Tony Awards hosted by the star of of the musical "Promises, Promises" currently on Broadway, was surprisingly easy to endure this time around. Hayes proved to be a capable host and racked up funny memorable performances, including his Spiderman impression and seductive scene with Broadway co-star Kristin Chenowith. The Top winners were Catherine Zeta-Jones who got the best actress nod for the musical revival of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music". She graciously thanked her "Movie Star" husband, Michael Douglas, who she "gets to sleep with every night". "Fences" another Broadway revival of August Wilson's intense family drama saw its two stars, Denzel Washington and Viola Davis win best actors in a play. Scarlet Johansson, not necessarily known for her theater prowess, managed to snag the best featured actress in a play for her turn in Arthur Miller's "A View From a Bridge". Katie Finneran took home best featured actress in a musical for "Promises, Promises". Other notable winners were "Red" for best play and best direction of a play which Michael Grandage took home. Eddie Redmayne also walked away with the best featured actor award. Bill T. Jones helped garner Fela! victory in the best choreography slot. Trendy Tech Report - Iphone 4G Unveiled

The wait is over! Apple with the help of its CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the revamped and sleeker version of the smartphone. This time the disappointment factor will be at an all time low if the newer and updated features live up to the hype. When it goes on sale June 24th, the first thing you will notice is the fact that its much thinner than its counterparts. 24 percent thinner to be exact. Jobs noted that "its the thinnest smartphone on the planet". It will also be available in black and white with the glass back and metal around the sides. Some of the other new and innovative features include, a front-facing camera for video-conferencing purposes, while the camera at the back will have an LED flash, and the ability to zoom in and out, thanks to the 5X digital zoom feature. The newest operating system (iOS) will allow for effortless multitasking even while surfing the net which a lot of users will certainly appreciate. And as to be expected, the battery life has been increased to seven hours of talk time on 3G and ten hours to surf the web on Wi-Fi. There is a lot more to be revealed but these are the highlights. And for those of us that can't wait to get or hands on it, as long as we are due for an upgrade or our contracts run out in 2010, we are eligible to treat ourselves as soon as they hit the market.

Trendy Fashion News - Lutz and Patmos To Bid Each Other Adieu

It looks like after a decade of successful partnership, Tina Lutz and Marcia Patmos are ready to go their separate ways citing personal reasons. They both met while working at Barney's New York and decided to launch their own clothing label geared towards the "working woman". Their line always had easy versatility and classic finish combined with their sense of what is environmentally and socially acceptable. They both already have their individual projects in the works. Patmos is hoping to have her new label M. Patmos ready before spring 2011 and she is also assuming a creative director role for Leroy & Perry, the sportswear line she and Lutz started 2 years ago. Lutz just plans to remain active in design and branding.
